Welcome to The Society
The Society is a level 25 PVE raiding guild that has raided together for almost 6 years. We are recruiting people who enjoy having fun and can focus when it's raid time. We currently raid twice a week (Thur/Sun), into the Dragon Soul (we're currently 3/8) and Firelands (we're currently 4/7, with Alysrazor targeted). We've cleared Tier 11 content (Bastion of Twilight, Blackwing Descent, and the Throne of the Four Winds!) We do not schedule raids for Tue or Wed nights. On raiding nights, we aim to start our raids at 8:30PM (sometimes 8:45) and run to about 11PM. We are a laid back guild full of working professions (for the most part that is; we have some college students) who understand that RL > WOW, yet still have a good time killing raid bosses.
Our recruiting status (by role) is as follows:
Roles:
Healers = recruiting (we have a pool of 3-4 healers)
Tanks = recruiting (we have 1 full-time and 1 part-time tank)
Ranged DPS = limited (we have 3 in rotation with another 4 part-timers)
Melee DPS = limited (we have 2 full-time, with 2 part-time)

Just a couple weeks ago, The Society resurrected its raiding and forayed into the Firelands again, taking care of four bosses before patch 4.3 dropped and gave us the Dragon Soul raid. Our first expedition into the Siege of Wyrmrest saw us defeating Morchok on our second pull! Sadly, in our excitement to pass out loot and our eagerness to move on, we forgot that basic snapshot of us dancing on the dead boss' corpse. Fortunately, one of our amateur...artists...provided his rendering of the scene to commemorate the event.
The debate rages on about whether his painkiller dose needs to be upped or lowered...see the Trophy Case to follow along.

Mass Resurrection Cast on The Society Raiding!

After a couple month haitus, The Society returned to raiding current content this week and brought down 3 Firelands Bosses! Shannox (aka, the bane of our existence in August), Beth'tilac (pictured), and Baleroc all died and were kind enough to pass out some loots. Next up: Lord Rhyolith and Alysrazor! Can our intrepid heroes beat a rock giant's kneecaps into submission? Can they drive him over volcanos? Can they handle multiple fire chickens leading up to the Ultimate Flaming Chicken of Doom? Al'Akir is dead. Tier 11 content is complete!

On August 1, 2011 we closed the books on Tier 11 content by returning to the Throne of the Four Winds and putting down the Lord of Air, Al'Akir. Sadly, this might be the one fight where we felt we'd missed the boat on something, since the post-nerf djinn had a much different (almost too easy) feel to him. The other end-cap bosses we beat post-nerf...it felt like you still had a flavor for how hard the fights were. This one...not so much. In any case, Cataclysm's first raiding tier is done. On to the Firelands!

The Society rejects offer to join Twilight's Hammer cult!

On July 19, 2011, The Society received an offer letter from a Mr. Cho'gall to join his Twilight's Hammer "Clan". After determining that this offer was not from a true clan, but rather a maniacal cult who wanted to destroy the world, we decided to reject the offer and issue a counterproposal instead...one that Cho'gall found he couldn't refuse.

Victor "Nef" Nefarian is dead!

CSI Report - July 11, 2011
Victim: Victor "Nef" Nefarian
Location: bottom of a pit, in a cave known as Blackwing Descent, Blackrock Mountain.
Status: Dead
Cause of Death: Massive blunt force trauma to the head and sides of the body. Also, multiple lacerations and puncture marks (arrow/gunshot wounds, along with gashes from what might be a large knife or sword) and significant burns from arcane forces over 70% of the body.
Evidence of Burglary?: Definitely. The place was ransacked.
Evidence of "Organized Activity": Can't be sure, but signs point to a "hit".

Normally, we aren't one to ally with the Horde, but on July 1, 2011 we received word from a shaman of great power that you had corrupted the very elements for the Twilight's Hammer.

Leucotios: "What? You're Ben Kenobi? I thought you were 'a shaman of great power'?"
Aggra: "Do not be insolent, little shaman!"
Leu: "Hey! Who you calling little? Why, I aughta..."
Thrall: "Peace! I meant a disturbance in the forces of nature..."
Leu: "oh, well, that's different then..."
Aggra: "Go'el, must we turn to these ruffians?"
Thrall: "We have not the time nor energy to spare. I restored the World Pillar. You freed me from the Elemental Bonds. We are life mates now regathering our strength...these will have to face the challenge in our place."
Aggra: "Very well, you have the right of it, Go'el."

While the site was down, we were still doing things. For instance, on June 23, 2011, we went fishing and look what we caught!
(ok, maybe not caught so much as bludgeoned to death while doing a fair amount of dying ourselves...)

Seems the website thought it should be compressing the pages to send to our browsers, but compression hadn't actually been enabled...go figure. (My bet is the host made a server-side change and didn't tell us.)
In any case, we're back (hey, in truth we never left...we were just stealthed) and I'll be updating the site with our recent activity (like Dead Nef, Dead Ascendant Council, and Dead Whale Shark!) in the next day or so.

Sometimes, it's the little things that matter...

This was a good week for The Society! Both raid nights saw a new boss kill and multiple bosses die in one night. Magmaw and the Conclave of Wind joined the Omnotron Defense System and Halfus Wyrmbreaker in the guild Trophy Case. It was attention to the details that turned the corner on both those fights so kudos to all involved in providing that focus! (hint: keep paying attention, the rest of the fights require that focus too)
On the lighter side, it was a distinct *lack* of paying attention that perhaps provided the week's true highlight...
Conversation heard in Mumble after proceeding further into Blackwing Descent:
Til - "Man, that elevator doesn't wait around..."
Hep - "yeah, seriously"
Mord - "guess some folks will need to catch the next one..."
Weylund - "nah, I've got my trusty parachute"

Spring Time is coming!

Springtime is approaching and the The Society is making headway in Cataclysm!
We are raiding a couple nights a week (most recent kill, the Omnotron Defense System), are about to be a level 17 guild, and just finished off the Mix Master guild achievement (free raid flasks for everyone!)
We still could use a few more folks in the raid rotation, so if you have a friend who's looking for a fun guild, invite them to join us!
